Effective management
Comedor popular – grupo de madres
A group of women runs a communal kitchen (so-called “comedor popular") in the community of Raucana. Comedores populares receive state subsidies in the form of food that they prepare and offer at a very decent price to persons in need.
In 2015, the group was about to close the comedor due to the cessation of government support. This is when Gotas de agua stepped in and supported the group with a new small starting capital (940 soles or about CHF 300), from which rice, noodles, sugar, oil and other food products were bought. Also, the women were trained in basic accounting. From the revenue they earn, they buy new ingredients.
Today, around 80 people a day are offered a hot meal, whereby people in distress, especially old people, can also be served a meal for free. Up to today, Gotas de agua regularly visits the group, and provides further training, for example when a new board is elected to take over the bookkeeping.
